This shrine is known as "the place to go for Hatsumode (first shrine visit of the year) in Okinawa," and it is bustling with many worshippers every year during the New Year's season. It is a very familiar shrine to the people of Okinawa, where people pray for things like family safety, protection from evil, safe childbirth, and business prosperity.

It is also known as a power spot for matchmaking, and recently, "Shrine Kon," a matchmaking event held at the shrine, has become a hot topic, making it a popular place to find a good partner.

[History]
Originally established in 11 as "Shokonsha" (a shrine dedicated to the war dead), it was renamed "Okinawa Prefecture Gokoku Shrine" in 14. Although it suffered damage during the fierce Battle of Okinawa, it overcame hardships and the current main hall and worship hall were rebuilt in 40. The enshrined deities are the spirits of those who sacrificed their lives in times of national crisis since the First Sino-Japanese War and the Russo-Japanese War.

2. Naminoue Shrine | Wakasa, Naha City

Naminoue Shrine attracts many visitors not only from within and outside the prefecture, but also from overseas. Locals affectionately call it "Nanmin-san."

The founding year of Naminoue Shrine is unknown, but this place overlooking the blue sea has long been cherished by people as a sacred site where they prayed for safe sea voyages. It is said that the King of Ryukyu also visited the shrine during the New Year to pray for the peace and prosperity of the nation. The shrine was damaged during the Battle of Okinawa but was rebuilt after the war. The enshrined deities include Izanami-no-Mikoto, Hayatamao-no-Mikoto, and Kotosakao-no-Mikoto.

3. Awase Bijuru | Awase, Okinawa City

Okinawa has many places known as "fertility prayer spots," but among them, Awase Bijuru is particularly famous for its blessings.

Located in a quiet residential area, Awase Bijuru has long been a sacred place that has been carefully preserved, and even today, many people from within and outside the prefecture come to pray.

After passing through the "first torii gate" and walking along the path lined with votive tablets, as you stand before the "shrine building and second torii gate" surrounded by lush green trees, the dignified atmosphere naturally makes you straighten your posture.

It is said that the shrine's origins date back to around 1768, when Yoshimasa Takaesu, a pioneer who moved to the Awase area, found a sacred stone floating on the sea surface, brought it back, and enshrined it as the "Bijuru God." "Bijuru" is an Okinawan word meaning "a stone that is an object of worship." It is especially known as a god of fertility (childbearing and child-rearing), and is also believed to bring blessings for good health, safe travels, and traffic safety.

As one of the prefecture's leading shrines dedicated to safe childbirth, it attracts many visitors praying for conception, successful child-rearing, and safe delivery, creating a peaceful and joyful atmosphere. The votive tablets hanging along the approach to the shrine mostly express wishes for the healthy growth of children. After visiting, you're left with a warm and comforting feeling.

The shrine offers a variety of cute amulets in gentle colors, befitting a deity of safe childbirth. Particularly popular are the "fertility amulet" featuring a mouse, which is said to have many offspring, and the "safe childbirth amulet" featuring a dog, which symbolizes a safe delivery. It is said that the blessings are even greater if a couple carries them together.

Also recommended is the "Childbearing Amulet," which uses natural stones as talismans, inspired by the sacred stones of Awase Bijuru.
