Yugafufu, a restaurant at Ishigaki Port Ferry Terminal | Yaeyama Soba

Yaeyama Soba Championship "Yugafufu"

"Yugafufu" is a restaurant located in the Ishigaki Port Ferry Terminal that serves Yaeyama soba and various other island dishes.
Open from 7 AM, this little-known establishment is always bustling with people heading to or arriving at remote islands, filling its small space of about 10 seats.

The unpretentious menu, which makes ample use of local island ingredients, offers such a wide variety of dishes that both locals and tourists alike will be spoiled for choice, thinking, "I want to try this, and that too!"

We proudly took 3rd place in the "Yaeyama Soba Category"!

From among the many menu items, this time we will introduce "Yaeyama Soba," which proudly won 3rd place in the "Yaeyama Soba Category" of the "1st Yaeyama Soba Championship" (held from July to September 2015).

While "Yugafufu" is also famous for its "Tuna Bowl," it boasts a wide selection of soba noodles, featuring a "golden broth and carefully crafted stock!"

Among them, the most popular is undoubtedly the authentic Yaeyama flavor, made with pork bone and bonito broth!

This is the "Yaeyama Soba (500 yen)" that won the award this time. The noodles of Yaeyama Soba are medium-thick and have a firm texture.
The unique soup of Yaeyama soba, made with pork bone and bonito broth, is neither ramen nor udon, and its flavor rivals that of specialty soba restaurants. It's definitely a dish you'll want to try.

Other options include "Soki Soba (800 yen)" topped with tenderly simmered pork cartilage, "Ika Sumi Soba (800 yen)" unique to Okinawa, "Yasai Soba (600 yen)" with plenty of vegetables, "Moyashi Soba (500 yen)", "Negi Soba (500 yen)", "Tori Soba (400 yen)", and "Oyako Soba (500 yen)".

Access is through the Ishigaki Port Ferry Terminal, a well-known gateway to the outlying islands of Ishigaki. Enter through the main entrance and it's located at the very back of the right-hand corridor among the many shops on the left.
If you're taking the bus from the airport, the stop before the final bus terminal is "Ishigaki Port Ferry Terminal".

It's only about a 2-minute walk from the bus terminal. It's conveniently located, making it easy to stop by while sightseeing or shopping, even if you're not heading to one of the outlying islands.
If you suddenly crave local island cuisine, this popular island diner is perfect for enjoying a meal even alone.

"Yugafuufuu" opens at 7am, making it very convenient for those heading to the outlying islands early in the morning.
Apparently, some tourists eat it as a substitute for breakfast at their hotel.

It's also great that you can use the "takeout menu" when you're short on time!
This is an island restaurant that I highly recommend visiting when you go to Ishigaki Port Ferry Terminal.
