Nakijin Village, located in the northern part of Okinawa Island, is a place where abundant nature thrives.
Stepping off the bustling street and heading along a lush, green mountain path, you'll suddenly come across a small 20-foot container house.

The cafe we're introducing today, "Subakoni Juffito Kitchen," was built from the ground up by a shop owner who was captivated by Okinawa during his travels and decided to move there. After gaining culinary experience in Kyoto and Osaka, he opened a cafe in Kitanakagusuku Village, and then moved to Nakijin Village in search of an even more ideal location.
Upon opening the door, you'll find yourself in a secluded hideaway filled with the mountain breeze and delicious aromas. Enjoy a luxurious moment that will delight both your body and soul, savoring the blessings of Okinawa's nature, carefully selected by the owner.

1. We prioritize healthy ingredients. This is why we are particular about what we serve in our restaurant.

The ingredients are mainly sourced from Yanbaru and Okinawa Prefecture, allowing you to enjoy carefully prepared dishes that are gentle on the body.
The lunch menu offers three options: hamburger steak, curry, and pasta. I ordered the most popular item, the handmade Agu pork hamburger steak.

With the motto, "You can make these at home, but they're all of a quality that's not easy to replicate," each dish, from the side dishes onwards, is meticulously prepared, and every bite offers a flavor that warms the heart.
The handmade hamburger steak is bursting with the juicy flavor of Agu pork, and the light and mellow Japanese-style sauce enhances the taste of the ingredients. The rice, too, reflects the owner's dedication to quality.

The rice we use is low-pesticide rice sourced from a farmer we know in Saga Prefecture. Every morning, we mill only the amount needed for that day, finishing it to a 50% polished state. 50% polished rice contains about three times more vitamin B1 and dietary fiber than white rice, and is also rich in magnesium and iron. Furthermore, by adding mixed grains when cooking, you can enjoy a chewy texture and a deep, rich flavor.

For dessert, I had "French-style chocolate cake with passion fruit and pineapple sauce."
The chocolate cake has a rich, dense flavor, made with French couverture chocolate, Okinawan brown sugar, and eggs. It is served with a homemade sauce made with seasonal passion fruit and pineapple.
The elegant sweetness of the chocolate cake is perfectly balanced with the refreshing acidity of the tropical fruits. It was rich yet not heavy, making it a delightful dish to enjoy to the very last bite.

2. The store, made from a 20-foot shipping container, feels just like a secret hideout!

The shop owner has been living in Okinawa for 19 years. When he first moved to Okinawa, he ran a cafe in Kitanakagusuku Village (central Okinawa Island). In November 2021, he relocated his base to Nakijin Village.
The site where the shop now stands was originally a mountain covered with trees. The cafe project began with the owner operating heavy machinery and clearing the land himself. By bringing in shipping containers and meticulously working on the interior, he created a one-of-a-kind space.

Upon entering the shop, the first thing that catches your eye is the large window that spans the entire front. Soft sunlight streams into the space, which has a warm, woody feel, and lush greenery stretches out beyond the window.
When asked why he moved to this location, the shop owner replied, "I felt it was a place where I could relax and be myself, with lots of nature and a different atmosphere from the southern and central parts of Okinawa Island."

"We want people to leave Nakijin having fallen in love with it."
The owner's passion seemed to be reflected not only in the food and the atmosphere, but also in the peaceful time that permeates this place.

3. Access and Business Hours

It's about a 15-minute drive from Churaumi Aquarium and about a 20-minute drive from Jangria Okinawa.
It's easily accessible from major tourist spots in northern Okinawa, making it a convenient place to stop by between sightseeing.

Autumn

I'm a web writer, nurse, and yoga instructor. Born and raised in Gifu, I was drawn to the sea and nature of Okinawa and moved to Nakijin Village. I'll introduce you to some of my favorite places and tastes in the Yanbaru region that soothe both mind and body.
