Sesoko Island is a remote island with a circumference of approximately 8 km.
Because it's possible to drive across the 762-meter-long Sesoko Bridge to and from the island, it attracts many tourists every year and is a popular destination for those who want to easily enjoy a remote island getaway.

 

As you drive across the Sesoko Bridge, a lush, natural island comes into view, surrounded on both sides by the crystal-clear, sparkling blue sea, making it a truly enjoyable scenic bridge.

Most tourists come to Sesoko Beach.
Many people mistakenly believe that the entire island of Sesoko is "Sesoko Beach," but the actual Sesoko Beach is the stretch of coastline on the west side that extends for about 800 meters.

2. Enjoy the beautiful ocean at the beaches of Sesoko Island

Sesoko Island has two well-equipped beaches and one small, unspoiled beach.

2-1. Sesoko Beach

Sesoko Beach, with its 800-meter-long stretch of white sand, is located on the opposite side of the island from Sesoko Bridge, about 3 km away and a 7-8 minute drive.

The natural beach, made of sand formed from crushed coral, appears even whiter when combined with the crystal-clear waters, offering a refreshing panoramic view. On clear days, you can even see Tacchu on Ie Island.

Besides its crystal-clear waters and superb location, another notable feature of Sesoko Beach is its well-equipped facilities.
With parking, a beach house, activities, rentals, lifeguards, a first-aid room, coin lockers, changing rooms, and showers, you can enjoy the ocean with peace of mind.

The swimming season is from April to October, but even outside of that season, you can relax and soak up the beautiful scenery while watching Ie Island bathed in the sunset.
To the right, facing the sea, there is a series of rocks, and a large rock cave is a popular photo spot used for Instagram and wedding photos.

2-2. Anti-Hama

Anchihama Beach will come into view on your right as you drive across Sesoko Bridge. After crossing Sesoko Bridge and passing the Sesoko Island Park parking lot, turn left and you will find a parking lot at the bottom of the slope.

Compared to Sesoko Beach, this beach is more compact and easier to enjoy. You can rent inner tubes, sea kayaks, parasols, snorkels, and goggles, and enjoy marine sports, so you can go and have fun without bringing anything. However, there are no lifeguards at Anchi Beach.

It has a hot shower and a toilet.

When Sesoko Beach is rough, Anchi Beach is calm.
Conversely, when Anchi Beach is rough, Sesoko Beach is calm, so it's a good idea to change beaches depending on the conditions.
Please be careful as the current is strong under Sesoko Bridge, and there are quite a few loose stones, so sports sandals or marine shoes are recommended.

2-3. Lover's Beach

The last beach I'll introduce is Koibito Beach. After crossing the Sesoko Bridge, take the second left turn. Go down the slope, and at the end, take the unpaved road on your left. There are simple stairs leading down to the beach from the side of the road.


Because it's a little-known spot, it's not very well maintained. The stairs leading down to the beach are quite slippery, so please be careful.
A cozy size, just right for two people. You can also see coral and clownfish in the ocean.
However, there are no swimming facilities such as parking lots or showers, so please make appropriate preparations or use the facilities at Anchi Beach, which is about 350 meters away.

3. Recommended cafes on Sesoko Island

3-1. UKAUKA

Enjoy a refreshing breeze while savoring the subtle sweet aroma of brown sugar hamburgers, and try the extensive menu including plates and desserts.

You can enjoy dishes made with herbs grown on-site, and plenty of Yanbaru vegetables grown without pesticides or organically.

The menu is extensive, featuring dishes like pasta and lunch made with vegetables harvested that day.

4. Access to Sesoko Island

The main way to get to Sesoko Island is by renting a car and taking the expressway from Naha Airport.

Head north on the expressway to the final exit, "Kyoda IC," on Okinawa Island. After exiting the expressway, drive along National Route 449, which runs along the coast with the sea on your left, towards Motobu Town, where the "Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium" is located.
Crossing the Sesoko Bridge, which will appear on your left, will take you to Sesoko Island. (Estimated travel time: approximately 2 hours)

If you go by bus, it takes about 2 hours from Naha Terminal to Nago Terminal, and then another 30 minutes or so to get to Motobu Town (plus about 15 minutes on foot from the bus stop), so I definitely recommend going by rental car.
