A little away from the hustle and bustle of Kokusai Street, down an even narrower alley off Ukishima Street, you'll find Nanyo Gensou, a T-shirt shop offering a new option for Okinawan souvenirs, just as you might wonder, "Is it really up here?"
The shop, housed in a renovated traditional Okinawan house, features original items inspired by Okinawan food, plants, and culture. Its appeal lies in its unique designs that retain an Okinawan feel.
"If I'm going to buy a T-shirt, I want to choose one that's a little different from everyone else's." For those people, we'd like to introduce a hidden gem in Naha that will make even the time spent searching for one a memorable part of your trip.
1. Okinawa's classics on T-shirts
"Nanyo Gensou" is a specialty shop for Okinawan souvenir T-shirts that opened in March 2026.
The shop's name evokes images of longing and nostalgia, reminiscent of "southern islands" and "South Seas." The renovated old house also embodies this worldview, with a pop and retro atmosphere.
The owner and staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is more like they enjoy the conversation itself rather than just providing customer service. You can take your time choosing products while they tell you about the motifs on the T-shirts or chat about sightseeing in Okinawa.

The owner values the idea that the clothes should be worn not only while sightseeing, but also in everyday life after the trip is over. The shop is filled with designs that combine a playful, unique style with ease of everyday wear.
Introducing three T-shirt series that showcase the essence of South Pacific fantasy!
The store is filled with a wide variety of unique T-shirts. Apparently, no particular item is more popular than others; all designs are chosen fairly evenly.
From here, we will introduce the store's lineup, divided into three main themes.
"Plant Photo T-shirts" featuring images of plants from Okinawa.

The plant photo T-shirts come in three designs: Japanese spindle tree, Pandanus, and Flame Tree. The design features a white background with a photograph of the plant and the words "Southern Sea Fantasy," creating a somewhat nostalgic feel.
I enjoyed learning about Okinawa through the T-shirts, as the staff members told me the names and characteristics of the plants.

What particularly caught my eye was the large-leaved bellflower, also known as the "traveler's tree." Its name appealed to my love of travel, and I couldn't resist trying it on. It seems fun to choose a piece not only based on its appearance, but also on the plant's characteristics and the origin of its name.
Which one will you choose? Okinawa's Soul Food Series

Popular Okinawan foods such as sata andagi (Okinawan doughnuts), tacos, taco rice, Okinawan tempura, and tropical fruits are also featured on these pop-style T-shirts.
This playful series lets you take home the dishes you enjoyed on your trip or your favorite Okinawan delicacies. Even the time spent deciding "Which one should I choose?" will become a wonderful memory of your Okinawa trip.

It's a great idea for couples, married couples, or friends to each choose different food designs to wear. The sata andagi (Okinawan donut) and taco designs are also available in kids' sizes, so you can enjoy matching outfits with your child.
A vibrant colored T-shirt featuring Uji and Shisa that will lift your spirits.

What really caught my eye in the store were the bright green sugarcane T-shirt and the cheerful yellow Shisa T-shirt.
This eye-catching design features a marbled fabric overlaid with motifs characteristic of Okinawa. The Uji T-shirt depicts realistic sugarcane and the word "Uji" in a font reminiscent of Arabic script, giving it a unique and cool impression.
Both colors are so uplifting and cheerful just by wearing them. They would look great in the strong Okinawan sunshine.
What sizes are available and what are the prices?

The T-shirts come in four sizes: S, M, L, and XL, and feature a relaxed, unisex oversized silhouette. The basic price is 5,500 yen, and the marble pattern version is 6,600 yen.
The store also has fitting rooms, so you can check the size and fit before finding your favorite item.
2. Just making it there is a joy! A hidden gem at the back of an alley.

"Nanyo Gensou" is located in Matsuo, Naha City. From Kokusai Street, turn onto Ukishima Street, and then proceed down a narrow alleyway to reach it.
The owner had been searching for a store location but couldn't find anything that really appealed to him. When he found the current old house, he immediately decided that this was the place!
Because it's in a somewhat hidden location, it's less likely to get crowded, allowing customers to take their time and look at each piece carefully. The owner hopes that the effort of searching for it deep in the alley will become a travel memory, fostering a sense of attachment to the piece chosen there. This is the sentiment behind this place.
Directions from Kokusai Street to Nanyo Gensou
Turn onto Ukishima Street from Kokusai Street and continue straight. The landmark is "Snoopy Surf Shop".

Just past the Snoopy Surf Shop, turn right and go straight down a narrow alley that makes you wonder, "Is it really up ahead?" Then you will see a light pink building.

"South Sea Fantasy" is located at the back of that building. Enjoy the back-alley streets, which are different from Kokusai Street, and head there feeling like you're on a treasure hunt.
3. In conclusion – Okinawa souvenirs that showcase your sense of style.

In addition to T-shirts, "South Sea Fantasy" also features tote bags, nylon bags, and caps adorned with palm trees. The designs range from vibrant colors perfect for summer to simple styles that are easy to incorporate into everyday life.
Enjoying conversations with the staff and taking your time to choose a souvenir that truly reflects your personality is one of the travel memories you'll take home. You'll find "NEO Okinawa souvenirs" that combine the essence of Okinawa with a stylishness that makes them perfect for everyday use.
If you're visiting the area around Kokusai Street, why not try searching for the "South Sea Fantasy" hidden in the back alleys?
