1. Sloth Store
The Sloth Store, which opened in 2022, is located right in the middle of a building that houses five restaurants. You'll be greeted by a noren (traditional Japanese curtain) featuring an adorable sloth mascot character.

Perhaps because the izakayas and ramen shops next door have such strong, assertive exteriors that scream "restaurant," you'll find yourself soothed by the laid-back, relaxed atmosphere of the Sloth Store.

This sloth-themed store is actually a new shop opened by the owner of "Sumibiyaki Yakitori Yukuru," the shop two doors down.

I was surprised to learn that they even did the interior design themselves. Contrary to its unique name, Sloth Store, the shop has a lot of attention to detail.
2. What's in the lineup at the Sloth Store?
Stepping through the distinctive noren (curtain), you enter a long, simple space. Refrigerated display cases line the wall directly opposite the entrance, filled with the delights of the Sloth Store: food, drinks, and desserts. The selection is unlike anything you'd find in your usual convenience store or supermarket, making it a truly exciting experience.

From Naha's famous tsukemen restaurant "Mitakeju," comes their "Rich Seafood and Pork Bone Tsukemen." Who would have thought we'd see the day when we could easily enjoy that rich soup and homemade noodles...!

Of course, there's also the yakitori from the owner's restaurant, "Sumibiyaki Yakitori Yukuru."

When I peeked into the dessert section, I found products from "Cafe Yabusachi," a representative shop of Nanjo City. I was thrilled to be able to buy "Yabusachi Mont Blanc," which I had only been able to enjoy at the shop before!

I can't help but get excited when I see Miyahira Dairy's "Coffee Milk," which any resident of the prefecture has probably tasted at least once.

There are so many other products to choose from, including curry udon soup from Sans Souci, a popular cafe in Kitanakagusuku Village, kamaboko rice balls from Mamiya Kamaboko, and island tofu chocolates from Ikedaya, a tofu shop that offers a tofu subscription service.

As of the time of the interview (October 2022), they source their products from over 20 stores, offering more than 50 different items. "We want to continue selecting items that we think are good," says owner Iha. As a unique store unlike any other, it's a place to keep an eye on, as it's sure to become even more interesting in the future.
3. How to shop at Sloth Store
Now, let's go over how to purchase items at the Sloth Store. First, look around the store and choose the items you want. Once you've decided what you want, pick up the items and head to the ticket machine.

Simply insert your money into the ticket machine, then find the button corresponding to the item you've picked up and press it. Your ticket will then be dispensed from the bottom of the machine. That's it, your purchase is complete.

Bags, chopsticks, and spoons are available around the ticket vending machine.
4. Access and Parking for the Sloth Store
Sloth Store is about a 30-minute drive from Naha Airport. It is located in Urasoe City, which is next to Naha City where the airport is located. Head north on National Route 58 and turn right at Yafuso in Urasoe City.

Turn onto Prefectural Road 38, and after crossing the overpass that spans National Route 330, turn left to arrive at your destination.

Parking is located behind the building where the Sloth Store is located. Please use either the shared parking area (on the fence side) or the area marked with a green sign that says "Yukuru Parking".
As you turn left, you'll see the entrance to the parking lot diagonally to your right, so go in there.

5. Conclusion
A little tip: If you're going to Sloth Store, it's best to go after lunch. They usually try to have a good selection of products, but they often get their stock in the morning, so the selection is even better around early afternoon.
Also, pay attention to the "POP" signs that are everywhere in the store. Unmanned stores can sometimes seem rather sterile, but the handmade product introduction POPs at Sloth Store have a warmth to them, which is really nice.
