Located in Nanjo City in southern Okinawa, Nakandakari Rural Park is a hidden gem where you can enjoy a peaceful time away from the hustle and bustle of tourist areas. It offers stunning ocean views from a hilltop and the Nakandakari Hijaa, a valuable cultural asset that has supported the lives of the local people, coexisting with the park's heritage.
Why not visit and leisurely savor the beauty of nature and the richness of history?
1. A spectacular view from a bench overlooking the sea.

Nakamurakyo Rural Park is located about a 4-minute drive from Mibaru Beach, a popular spot in the southern part of the main island.

There are no playgrounds or other equipment in the park; instead, it's a vast expanse of lawn and a tranquil space. As you venture further into the park in this relaxed atmosphere, a view that will make you stop in your tracks unfolds before you.

The vast expanse of blue sea and sky blends together, creating a sense of boundless freedom. Beyond Shikiya Fishing Port, you can see Kudaka Island, the birthplace of Okinawa.

Because it's not a touristy area, there are few people, and simply sitting on a bench and gazing at the sea makes you forget the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
2.Nakamura Higawa River

Just a three-minute walk from the park is the Nakamurakyo Higawa, a designated Important Cultural Property of Japan. It is a representative example of Okinawa's traditional stone wells and was once an important water source that supported the lives of the local people.

Originally, it was a simple structure called "Ufugaa," a water source using wooden pipes. Later, from 1989 to 1990, it was renovated and reconstructed into its current beautiful form using Ryukyu limestone.

Remains such as separate water facilities for men and women, a plaza, a place of worship, a communal bath, and stone pavements can be seen, allowing visitors to get a concrete sense of what life was like at that time.
Until a simple water supply system was established around 30, this place was used not only for securing drinking water, but also as the center of daily life for washing clothes and vegetables, and for bathing.

This area, imbued with the scenes of people's lives where they have gathered, conversed, and offered prayers, has also been used as a filming location for movies and television shows, including the film "Treasure Island," which was released in September 2025.

3. In conclusion – Simple scenes that evoke images of life in Okinawa in the past.

Nakamurakuchi Rural Park is a simple and warm place, quite different from the flashy tourist destinations.
And amidst the seemingly ordinary scenery, you can truly feel the lives and history of the people who live there. Why not spend some leisurely time immersed in the original landscape of Okinawa?
Even just a short detour during your sightseeing will surely provide you with a moment that soothes your soul.
