Mexico is an indispensable restaurant when talking about tacos in Okinawa. With a history of over 45 years, it is a popular spot that attracts many customers from both within and outside the prefecture.
Its signature style, featuring crispy fried tortillas topped with spicy meat and vegetables, has made it a beloved dish across generations.
The main store is located in Ginowan, but it has been decided that it will close at the end of 2025 and move to the Chatan store in January 2026 for a complete integration.
This time, I visited the Chatan store before its complete relocation and will report on the exterior, the atmosphere inside, and the unchanging taste of the tacos.
Gentle orange exterior
Blending seamlessly into the bustling streets of Chatan, this place is easily recognizable by its vibrant orange walls and retro sign.

The bright atmosphere inside is evident from the large glass-fronted entrance, and its open and inviting appearance makes it easy to enter even for first-timers. There's also a dedicated parking lot in front of the store, making it perfect for a stop during a drive. The exotic exterior will get you in the mood even before you start eating.
Bright and retro interior
The interior of the store is a bright space based on the same orange color as the exterior.

The walls are decorated with retro paintings and photographs, giving the place an atmosphere reminiscent of a local diner abroad.

The seating area features spacious black leather-style sofas lining the walls, creating a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere for groups and families. Sunlight streams in through the large windows, giving the entire restaurant a bright and open feel.
Colorful stained-glass-style lampshades hang from the ceiling, illuminating the red and white checkered tablecloths and creating a retro and pop atmosphere reminiscent of a classic American diner.

The understated interior design, which makes you want to take pictures, is also a major draw.

Water is self-service. Children's tableware and cutlery are also available. It's a family-friendly place.
The menu is the same as the first store (Ginowan).

The menu is the same as our first store in Ginowan, which has been a beloved spot for many years. You can enjoy classic tacos and taco rice, as well as the same unchanging flavors, right here in Chatan.

The star of the show, the tacos, boasts an exceptional balance of ingredients and tortilla shells. Particularly noteworthy are the tortillas, which are handmade in-house. The freshly fried, crispy yet chewy shells gently absorb the juicy taco meat juices. The crispness of the fresh vegetables and the richness of the cheese combine to create a perfect harmony in your mouth!

What completes this flavor is the secret homemade salsa sauce. The fresh acidity of the tomatoes and the refreshing spiciness that follows give the whole dish a crisp finish. Because it's simple, the high quality of each ingredient comes through directly, resulting in a delicious taste that you'll want to enjoy again and again.

The small size is just perfect, and I finished a plate of four in no time. It's great that it's easy for kids to eat too!
Business Information
The store is located on a road just off Route 58 towards the ocean, and is easily accessible, about a 3-minute drive from American Village.

Parking is available in front of and behind the store, with a total capacity of 13 cars.
The parking spaces in front of the building are quite limited, and larger vehicles might find it a little difficult to park. If you're not confident in your driving skills, the more spacious parking area at the back is a safer option.
Also, on weekends, you can use the parking lot of Ryukyu Company, which is next to the store. Please be careful not to park there on weekdays.
