Kabira Bay has become a must-see tourist spot on Ishigaki Island.
Many tourists flock here every day to catch a glimpse of the mysteriously beautiful sea, whose color changes depending on the time of day.
Did you know that there are many hidden gems of restaurants around Kabira Bay that are surprisingly little known?
While there are plenty of places to have lunch while sightseeing, I think Kabira at night is the hottest spot for those who want to experience the deeper side of Ishigaki Island!
Enjoy delicious food while sipping on Omoto, a local awamori (Okinawan distilled spirit) beloved by the locals of Kabira.
Enjoying meals and chatting with friends you meet on your trip is one of the best memories you can make in Ishigaki Island.
Rather than just stopping by while visiting Kabira Bay, I'd say you should go to Kabira specifically for this restaurant! I highly recommend this restaurant in Kabira.

1. Soba-ya Nakamoto

While there are many restaurants in Kabira that serve Yaeyama soba, Soba-ya Nakamoto's menu consists solely of Yaeyama soba.
They pride themselves on their simple yet flavorful homemade soup, and they use as many local island ingredients as possible.
What's really great is the generously portioned set that comes with a multi-grain rice ball, and the fact that even the à la carte dishes come with homemade papaya salad!
It's a small shop run by a lovely mother, located behind the Kawahira police box.

Located in Kabira, PURAU is an Asian bar where you can fully enjoy a Balinese atmosphere. It's a popular bar with an irresistible tropical vibe.
The Asian dishes prepared by the mom, who is such a Bali connoisseur that she visits every year, are all authentic and just as delicious as those you'd find in Bali itself!
Many foreigners living in Kabira gather here, so you might be able to enjoy a feeling of being on a trip abroad while still in Japan!
The shop's mascot dog, Fuku-chan (a Pomeranian), is very well-behaved, and just watching her is very soothing.

Kawahira Gohan-ya makes homemade bento boxes for just 500 yen, so you can always enjoy a freshly prepared meal.
Since the menu changes daily, you can enjoy a different flavored bento box every day, so you won't get bored.
We also recommend Okinawa's soul food, taco rice, and Taiwan's classic braised pork rice bento box!
There's also an eat-in area, so you can easily enjoy a meal right there.
While indoors are nice, it's also wonderful to occasionally enjoy a leisurely picnic lunch with a packed lunch while gazing at the beautiful sea of Kabira.

For those who want to try something a little different, Oishii-sa-gu is recommended, offering Kahei soba with its thick, flat noodles, homemade noodles made with chlorella, and soba topped with locally sourced kuruma prawns.
The katsudon, which is very popular with the locals, is actually a hidden gem on the menu!
Furthermore, the special gelato made with ingredients unique to Ishigaki Island, such as bitter melon, shikwasa citrus, and passion fruit, comes in a wide variety of flavors, making it hard to choose just one!
Located just a one-minute walk from Kabira Bay, this shop is easily recognizable by the two large Shisa statues right next to the bus stop.

8. Finally
While Kabira is often highlighted for its beautiful Kabira Bay, another major attraction is the opportunity to savor delicious food prepared by the warm and friendly people who run the establishments there.
In Ishigaki Island, there are differences in culture and festivals from region to region, and the Kabira settlement, which has the oldest history on the island, is particularly unique.
In the shops within the village, locals enjoy meals while drinking island liquor (awamori), so if you happen to make friends, you might be able to hear all sorts of stories about the island.
