"Ippukuya" is easily recognizable by its large reddish-brown corrugated iron roof.
The signature chilled noodles feature translucent noodles and sea grapes, with bitter melon and pork ribs adding a touch of color.

1. Cross the Kaichu Road to Henza Island

About an hour's drive from Naha Airport, along the Kaichu Road that extends from Uruma City on the east coast of Okinawa Island into the sea, lie four islands: Henza Island, Miyagi Island, Hamahiga Island, and Ikei Island.

Henza Island, the closest island to the main island of Okinawa, serves as an oil base for Okinawa, and is lined with huge white oil tanks.

After descending the Kaichu Road, turn right and follow the large road along the coast to reach the village of Henza Island. Continue straight past the fishing port and park, and you'll see a sign that says "Ippukuya" on the sidewalk to your left. Climb the long slope for a while, and you'll arrive at Ippukuya, which offers a panoramic view of the sea from its elevated position.

2. It's like a secret hideout! Inside and outside the store

After passing through the main gate, climb the stairs on the right side of the building to reach the cafe entrance. You will need to remove your shoes before entering the cafe.
Upon entering the restaurant, a staff member asked if I preferred indoor or terrace seating. Since I was there, I opted for the terrace.

The shop is filled with small items and ornaments that evoke the sea, such as floats and anchors, making it feel like a secret base inside a ship.

Even the water dispenser is wild!

The wall facing the sea is wide open, allowing a pleasant breeze to flow through the shop.
There's a hammock for kids on the deck (with a weight limit of 20kg). It would have been awesome to have a hammock in my own secret hideout (of course, I'm over the weight limit now).

At the end of the deck is a long table designed to resemble a ship.

The interior is certainly adventurous, yet the shop has a strangely calming atmosphere.

There were a few couples and groups of female tourists, and some people were reading while drinking coffee.
You can enter without hesitation even if you're alone.

Beyond the settlement of Henza Island lies the blue sea, and in that sea, the neighboring Hamahiga Island floats.
Enjoy the clear blue sky and the tranquil scenery of Okinawa.

3. Check out the menu at Ippukuya!

Ippukuya's menu mainly consists of light meals such as noodles and rice balls. Among them, cold noodles are particularly popular.

3-1. "Sea Grapes Cold Noodles"

Here's our popular chilled noodle dish! This is a mini size.
Silverware provides a refreshing coolness to your body, making it perfect for hot days.
The mini size is perfect for a light snack, a satisfying portion that you can slurp down easily. Add the kimchi, served on a separate plate, to your noodles as you like.

These noodles are transparent and smooth! They have a very light texture and seem gentle on a stomach feeling sluggish from the summer heat.

It pairs well with the light-tasting oxtail soup.
The crunchy texture of the bitter melon and the salty, popping sea grapes provide a nice contrast when you bite into them.
It also comes with tender, collagen-rich pork ribs that can be easily cut with chopsticks, making it a dish where you can enjoy Okinawan specialties all at once.

3-2. "Squid Ink Juicy Rice Ball"

Juicy (Okinawan mixed rice dish) with a subtle squid ink aroma.
My personal recommendation for eating it is to put the soup and juicy rice on the cold noodle spoon, like eating ochazuke (rice with tea).
It was delicious!

3-3. "Zenzai (with condensed milk)"

In Okinawa, zenzai is often served with shaved ice. Many people might be surprised by this!
This dessert features plenty of red beans cooked in brown sugar and other boiled beans served over ice. It's perfect as a finishing touch after a meal.

4. Basic information about Ippukuya

Ippukuya is a place where you can relax and unwind, something you rarely experience in the city center.
When you're driving along the Kaichu Road, why not stop by for lunch or a break?
