While many may know of the heart-shaped rock on Kouri Island as a power spot for fulfilling romantic wishes, did you know that there are actually several other heart-shaped rocks scattered throughout the island? This time, we'll introduce the heart-shaped rocks found on Kouri Island, Miyako Island, and Ishigaki Island.

Kouri Island Heart Rock

Kouri Island's Heart Rock, which became a huge hit after being featured in an airline commercial in 2014, is famous for its two rocks that, when placed together, resemble a heart shape on the crystal-clear beach called Tinuhama.
It's amazing to learn that the rocks were shaped solely by the waves, untouched by human hands. At sunset, a heart-shaped silhouette emerges from the orange-hued sea, creating an even more romantic atmosphere.

What's interesting about Kouri Island's Heart Rock is that another heart appears when you change your perspective. If you look at it from an angle, without the rocks overlapping perfectly, an inverted heart appears between the rocks. It is said that if you see these two hearts, your love will be fulfilled.
Kouri Island is home to the Okinawan legend of Adam and Eve. Legend says that long ago, a boy and a girl descended from the heavens to the southern part of the island, and their descendants became the ancestors of the Ryukyuan people. Why not visit this romantic "island of love" and gaze upon Heart Rock with your loved one?

How to get to Heart Rock on Kouri Island

Kouri Island, where Heart Rock is located, is about an hour's drive from Churaumi Aquarium. If you drive around the island counterclockwise, you will see a sign for Teenu Beach, so park your car in the parking lot just beyond it and walk to the beach.

There are three parking lots, all of which are paid parking lots starting at 200 yen per hour. The path to Heart Rock is a rocky slope and can be slippery, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes such as sneakers.

Heart Rock in Miyako Island

Ueno German Cultural Village, a theme park located in the southern part of Miyako Island, has several walking trails where visitors can stroll through the park while enjoying the natural beauty of Miyako Island. One of the spectacular views from these trails is Heart Rock, which is said to bring lasting happiness to couples who see it together.

The sight of a heart shape floating in the middle of the vast ocean is incredibly romantic and a truly unique spectacle that can only be seen here. Since it can only be seen at low tide, be sure to check the tide table to find out when low tide is coming.

How to get to Heart Rock in Miyako Island

Ueno German Cultural Village, where the heart-shaped rock is located, is in the southern part of Miyako Island, about a 15-minute drive from Miyako Airport.
Once you enter the park, head towards the Palace Building. Heart Rock is located on the cape directly in front of the Palace Building. There's a sign for Heart Rock, so just follow that and you won't get lost.

Heart Rock on Ikema Island

Ikema Island, a small island about 10 km in circumference, is accessible by car from Miyako Island. Even on Ikema Island, there's a "heart-shaped rock" that can only be seen at low tide. Because it's located on the grounds of a cafe, you'll need to use the cafe to see it.
The crystal-clear, beautiful sea is visible through the gaps in the heart-shaped rock. It is said that the uplifted coral reef was accidentally eroded into a heart shape. It became famous as a filming location for the TV drama series "Jun to Ai" and is now a popular tourist spot on Ikema Island. The heart-shaped rock is submerged at high tide, so be sure to check the tide times in advance before you go.

How to get to Heart Rock on Ikema Island

Heart Rock is located on the grounds of "Ikemajima gelato cafe Ninufa," a gelato shop about a 5-minute walk from the Ikema Bridge. There's a parking lot right next to the cafe, so park your car there. Basically, you'll enjoy a meal at the cafe and then take a dedicated path down to the beach at the bottom of the cliff.

There is a route that goes from Ikizu Beach to Heart Rock, but it requires navigating through rocks and bushes, so we recommend taking the well-maintained route that is accessible from the cafe.

Makiiwa Rock on Ishigaki Island (Heart Rock in Iharama)

Ishigaki Island has many power spots, but one of the power spots said to bring good fortune in having children is "Iharama's Heart Rock." Located on the beautiful blue Iharama coast, this impressive large rock has a constricted shape that resembles a heart, hence its names "Heart Rock" or "Wrapped Rock."

This large rock is actually coral rock, apparently carried here by a massive tsunami. It's said that touching it will bring you good fortune in having children, making it a popular power spot. The surrounding coastline is unspoiled nature, and with few people around, you can enjoy a private beach-like atmosphere.

How to get to Makiwa Rock on Ishigaki Island

Iharama Beach, where Makiwa Rock is located, is about a 20-minute drive from Ishigaki Airport. Head north from Iharama Community Center, and you'll see a road turning off to the right. Take this road to reach the beach. The road isn't well-maintained; it's a narrow path through grassy areas, so proceed slowly and carefully. When you come to an open space, park your car there and walk to the beach.
