Hamaya, which proudly displays its name "Okinawa Soba Specialty Restaurant" in eye-catching large letters, is located near Miyagi Beach in Chatan Town, a beach town in Okinawa.
The restaurant's signature dish, "Hamaya Soba," is topped with plenty of soki (pork ribs) that have been simmered until incredibly tender! A thin omelet adds a touch of color.
Why not try some authentic Okinawan soba at Hamaya, a restaurant that attracts not only locals but also many tourists?

1. Hamaya is this kind of soba restaurant

Hamaya is located near the sea in Chatan Town, in the central part of Okinawa Island.
As shown in the image, there are two parking spaces in front of the store, and about five more in the second parking lot, which is about a 5-minute walk from the store.
Please be aware that the area in front of the store is heavily policed!
2. Spacious interior and exterior

This time, I visited at 1:30 PM.
The entrance is marked by a sign that says "Welcome" in red letters. It appears that smoking is prohibited inside the store!

There's a terrace seating area at the entrance, with two large tables that can seat about six people each.
It's also nice to relax in the shade and enjoy the Okinawan breeze!

Ordering is done via a ticket system. Upon entering the restaurant, there are two ticket machines on the left, and the menu is the same at both (which makes sense).

It's bustling with lots of people!
Besides Japanese tourists, there were also a few American and Chinese customers.
The mix of English, Chinese, and Japanese creates a truly global atmosphere, which is very Okinawan!
The store is quite air-conditioned, so if you get cold easily, you might want to bring a jacket or cardigan.

The raised seating area has tatami mats. Once you sit down, you instantly feel at home. It's so comfortable you might even fall asleep.

I happened to look up at the wall and saw it was covered with autographed photos of celebrities!
You might get asked for an autograph too!

3-1. "Hamaya Soba (Large)"
This is the exquisite Hamaya Soba (large size)!
It arrived about 5 minutes after I ordered. That's fast!
And it's packed with chunks of pork ribs, a surprisingly generous portion.
From above, it looks as if an island of pork ribs is floating in a sea of broth.

The pork ribs are incredibly tender!
It breaks apart easily with just chopsticks.
The broth is thoroughly absorbed, and the texture that melts in your mouth when you bite into it is sure to be addictive!
3-2. "Tebichi Soba (Large)"

This is also one of our signature dishes: a set meal of Tebichi Soba (pig's trotters soba noodles) and Jushi (Okinawan mixed rice)!
The sheer amount of tebichi (pig's trotters) completely covers the soba noodles, making it incredibly meaty.
Tebichi has a two-layer structure, with the outer layer having a jelly-like, bouncy texture and being rich in collagen!
The inside consists of a large bone and meat, and the meat is juicy.
Will your skin be incredibly smooth and radiant by the time you leave the store?!

The tebichi (pig's trotters) are so big they spill out of the container.
It may look firm, but it crumbles easily when you pick it up with chopsticks!
Because the broth has soaked in thoroughly, the broth and the fatty juices from the pig's trotters fill your mouth.

By chance, I found some tebichi (pig's trotters) that looked like a pig's face.
Incidentally, in Okinawa, pig's face (chiraga) and pig's ears (mimiga) are also commonly eaten.

You can enjoy the unique curly noodles that are characteristic of Okinawan soba.
It has a firm texture, but goes down smoothly.
This is the quintessential Okinawan soba! It's a classic flavor that Okinawan residents would unanimously agree is the best.

Jushi, a traditional Okinawan dish, is packed with nutrients, containing ingredients like hijiki seaweed, carrots, and shiitake mushrooms!
The pork fat gives it a rich, deep flavor.
The amount of water varies by region, and some types resemble rice porridge.
At this restaurant, the rice has a fluffy, light texture, like fried rice!

I recommend the self-service pickled radish and juicy rice combo!
It has a refreshing flavor, so it goes well with rice.

When I left the shop around 2 PM, there was a sign indicating that customers were waiting to be seated, and a crowd had gathered in front of the shop.
It was empty when I visited in the morning last time, so it might be a good time to go.
