1. Go to Freedom!
Freedom is located in Okinawa City, about an hour's drive from Naha Airport. From the outside, it looks like a classic Showa-era coffee shop. To be honest, it gives off an atmosphere that makes you hesitate and wonder, "Is it okay to go in?"

Upon stepping inside, those worries quickly vanished. In stark contrast to the exterior, the interior had a bright and cheerful atmosphere. The space was small enough to see everything at a glance, and all the seating was in booths. There were about 15 seats in total.

In fact, this hidden gem was featured on national television as a restaurant recommended by ISSA from DA PUMP, and is also visited by tourists. Incidentally, there are ashtrays on each table, and smoking is permitted.
There are 5 free parking spaces available next to the store, so please use them if you are coming by car.

2. Freedom's Menu
Freedom uses a system where you purchase food tickets from a vending machine. As soon as you enter the restaurant, you'll see a vending machine right in front of you, so choose the dish you want.

The menu is broadly divided into seven categories: Steaks and hamburgers, set meals, Western-style dishes, champuru (Okinawan stir-fry), rice bowls, noodles, and toast.
For example, the fried oyster set meal (750 yen), fu-chanpuru (700 yen), and katsudon (750 yen) are all reasonably priced. With the exception of a few items, the affordable price range of 600 to 1,000 yen is a major draw.
There are photos of sample dishes displayed outside the restaurant, so it's a good idea to take a look before going inside to get a better idea of what kind of food they offer.

After purchasing your ticket from the vending machine, go to the counter on your right and hand your ticket to the staff member.

A complimentary drink is included with your meal. When you hand over your ticket, you'll be asked which drink you'd like, so you can order your preferred beverage.

After handing over your ticket, you can choose any available seat you like. The interior has a retro atmosphere, as if time has stopped in the Showa era. The atmosphere of a good old-fashioned coffee shop remains strong, and you can feel nostalgia everywhere you look.

Among them, table games are particularly nostalgic.

Some seats have tables where you can play games, and you'll get excited thinking, "I've seen this on TV!"

It was early afternoon, so there were only a few people around, but according to the staff, there are always customers. It's especially crowded during lunchtime.
The food itself was excellent, with a great balance of taste, portion size, and price. I can see why it's so popular with the locals.

Final thoughts
After finishing your meal, one of the joys of Freedom is to relax with a drink. It might be nice to just zone out and soak up the retro atmosphere once in a while.

The shop's Showa-era atmosphere is sure to evoke a sense of nostalgia and evoke feelings of longing. You might feel hesitant to enter at first, but once you step inside, you'll find it's a surprisingly comfortable place.
