Experience the diverse world of authentic tacos in Okinawa! Espers Tacos & Coffee

Espázastacos signThe Esparza's Tacos & Coffee, which we're introducing today, is, as the name suggests, a place where you can enjoy tacos and coffee.

Tacos are one of Okinawa's soul foods. Many people probably want to try them at least once during their stay in Okinawa, right?

While typical Okinawan tacos consist of meat, lettuce, tomato, and cheese, these tacos offer a wide variety, including chorizo, sour cream, and cilantro. And the portions are huge!

The shop's exterior is lovely, exuding a somewhat exotic atmosphere while offering a comfortable and relaxing space.

Don't worry about getting sauce all over your mouth; just take a big bite!

1. A bold and hearty taco specialty shop that is typical of Chatan.

ESP Aza Tacos store exteriorWhile driving along Route 58, Okinawa's main road, a stylish sign suddenly catches your eye in Chatan.

Drawn in by an irresistible urge, I approached the shop and discovered "ESPARZA'S TACOS & COFFEE" (hereinafter referred to as Esparza's Tacos), a stylish taco specialty shop.

Due to its location, the restaurant attracts many foreign customers, and its hearty and generously portioned tacos are said to be very popular.

As I headed towards the entrance to go inside, I was greeted by a row of cacti lined up outside the shop. Dine-in is available, of course, but takeout is also possible.

When the restaurant is crowded, it's a great idea to get takeout and eat it at the beach or a park!

2. Don't miss the small items inside the store.

Espázastacos Store InteriorThe interior has a cool and rugged industrial vibe!

Looking around the store, I noticed that over 8% of the customers were foreigners... It's a common sight in Chatan, but it's a place where you can't help but wonder, "Is this really Japan?"

Mexican ornaments lined up on the counter at Espa ZastacosOrder and pay at the counter in front of you, then wait at your seat. When your order is ready, you'll be called, so go and pick it up.

While you wait for your tacos, you can enjoy checking out the restaurant's interior, such as the Mexican decor at the counter or the unique lighting on the ceiling. The wait will fly by!

3. A wide variety of tacos and side dishes are available.

Esperzastacos MenuYou can order tacos individually, but there are also value combo menus that include drinks and side dishes.

One of the features of Esparza Tacos is its wide variety of side dishes, including seasonal salads, Mexican rice, and chili beans.

My absolute favorite is the pizza sticks! They make the beer go down so easily!

4. Overflowing, voluminous tacos

Espaza tacos Chicken FafitasAnd there you have it, a taco overflowing with generously and boldly cut vegetables!
This is the Chicken Fafitus (880 yen).

Grab the red chili marinated chicken and vibrant bell peppers, topped with sour cream, with both hands and enjoy them heartily, being careful not to spill anything!

Incidentally, there's a self-service salsa bar where you can choose your favorite salsa.
Enjoy the changing flavors depending on the salsa you pair it with, such as tomato-based or onion and cilantro.

Esper Zastacos Grandma's ChorizoThis is Grandma's chorizo (880 yen).
Ground pork is topped with egg, onion, and cilantro.

I think this is the closest thing to the simple tacos you often see in Okinawa.

Nevertheless, these tacos were full of originality, with a unique visual appeal and an addictive taste unlike any other.

Espaza Tacos Pizza SticksOur top recommended side dish is the pizza sticks.

This is a simple combination of ham and cheese, but the crispy fried crust and the piping hot filling inside are a perfect match!

Since it can be eaten with one hand, enjoy it with a beer in your right hand and a pizza stick in your left.

5. Summary

In Okinawa, tacos are generally small and simple, with meat as the main filling. This is apparently a common combination in Tex-Mex (Texas-style Mexican cuisine), while in Mexico, the home of tacos, tacos are enjoyed with a wide variety of fillings and combinations, as seen in the menu lineup at Esparza's Tacos & Coffee.

The world of tacos is far richer than you might imagine, with its bold combinations of ingredients, visually appealing presentation, and the variety of flavors offered by the abundant salsa.

With a wide variety of side dishes, desserts, and drinks available, be sure to stop by for a break while sightseeing in Chatan or during your drive along Route 58.

And no matter what, don't forget to order the pizza sticks! (lol)
