Enjoy Okinawa's "gourmet food," "accommodation," and "experiences" all in one place! Onna Village's "Tsuchika Toka" is full of charm!

Condominium Doka Doka

Okinawa is a very popular resort destination in Japan. I love it too, and I visit it several times a year.
Okinawa has many attractions, but perhaps the most unique is being able to spend time gazing at the blue ocean.
Furthermore, the people I spend time with there are very warm, and I feel a sense of enrichment every time I visit, as time seems to flow slowly.

As someone who absolutely loves Okinawa, I'd like to introduce you to "Dokadoka," a place I discovered on my recent trip to Okinawa!

Toka Toka is located on a hill slightly uphill in Onna Village.
This cafe was already famous on Instagram and other social media platforms, and it's a highly-rated cafe with stunning ocean views and delicious food.

The husband runs the Ryukyu pottery studio "Seifu Kiln" and the wife runs the Doka Doka Cafe.
Then, in 2020, next to the Toka Toka Cafe, the accommodation facility "Hoel Condominium Toka Toka" opened, accepting only three groups per day.

Relax and unwind at Okinawa's pace, enjoy a coffee on the terrace whenever you like, and experience Okinawan pottery (yachimun).
This time, we'll tell you all about the charms of Toka Toka, where you can enjoy Okinawan cuisine, accommodation, and experiences all in one place!

1. At the Ryukyu Pottery "Seifu Kiln" pottery class, you can create a one-of-a-kind Yachimun piece, imbuing it with the blue sea and wind of Ryukyu.
2. Relax on the terrace, soothed by the Okinawan sea and breeze, and enjoy a special café time at "Tsuchika Toka"!
3. Hoel Condominium Doka Doka is a private hotel with only three rooms, one on the first floor, where you can enjoy different views from each floor.

Seifugama

Aofu Kiln is a Ryukyu pottery studio located on a hill overlooking the East China Sea. The first floor of the building, built on a slope, houses a pottery studio where pottery classes are also held, while the second floor features a gallery of works and a cafe (Dohana Dohana).

The founder, Akira Tamada, is an artist who is still actively working, having created tableware for the banquet held at Shuri Castle during the Okinawa Summit, as well as for the lobbies of famous hotels.
His most representative work, "Umi-iro" (Sea Colors), is a truly wonderful piece that beautifully captures the sea and wind of Okinawa in vibrant yet delicate blues and whites.
Kaisai Yachimun

At our pottery workshop, you can try various activities such as using a potter's wheel, hand-building, making Shisa (Okinawan guardian lion statues), and painting plates, mugs, and rice bowls.
The prices are also reasonable, ranging from 3,300 to 5,500 yen per person.

This time, I got to try the most popular pottery wheel experience at Kaisai!
I was so nervous about trying pottery on a potter's wheel for the first time...!

First, they'll discuss with you what shape and size of vessel you'd like to create.
As a beginner, I decided to make small bowls because they are easy to make and versatile.

Once you've decided on the type of pottery you want to make, it's time to start creating your Yachimun!
They will give a clear and detailed demonstration of the process from the initial lump to the shape of a bowl.
Wow, how kind...!

Seeing my nervousness, she kindly reassured me, "It's okay if you make mistakes," and with hesitant movements, she pressed the clay firmly to create the shape of a vessel.

They guide you by hand as you create the base shape of the bowl, which is very reassuring.
After that, you gradually shape it little by little, carefully checking the amount of pressure you're applying.

Finally, adjust the thickness of the bowl and refine it, then check the final shape.
The piece is then detached from the potter's wheel with a thread, and finally, initials or any other words you like are written on it.

I didn't know anything, but thanks to Mr. Tamada's very kind and thorough guidance, I was able to create a wonderful piece of pottery!
Thank you! !!

The finished pottery is dried, fired in a kiln, and then shipped to you. The entire process takes about two months.
It's quite不思議 (mysterious/strange) how a small brown bowl can be transformed into a bowl adorned with the colors of the sea...!
I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished product! ♡

At first, I thought it would be better to just buy one since I'd never done it before, but when I actually tried making one, the instructions were so thorough that it wasn't as difficult as I thought, and I've grown quite attached to it ^^
It was a wonderful experience, and I was really looking forward to receiving it!

This is the finished product that was sent to me later.
Tsuchihana Tsuchihana Kaisai Yachimun

It's wonderful...! (Self-praise, lol)
It's not that I'm amazing (lol), but the colors are so beautiful and I'm really looking forward to using them ♡

It's popular with families and friends, but also with couples. Making matching Yachimun pottery pieces will surely create wonderful memories, so I highly recommend giving it a try!

2. Relax on the terrace, soothed by the Okinawan sea and breeze, and enjoy a special café time at "Tsuchika Toka"!

Doka Doka Cafe

After creating my own unique Yachimun pottery at the pottery class, I enjoyed lunch at the neighboring Doka Doka Cafe!
This cafe is incredibly popular, and you should expect a wait during lunchtime on weekends. However, I went on a weekday and was lucky enough to find the terrace free for just one group! Lucky me!

Inside the cafe, there's a row of works by Akira Tamada, created at "Seifu Kiln."
Kaisai Yachimun

The Yachimun pottery, beautifully arranged on the wooden shelves and table, is truly lovely, and I want to buy it all! (lol)
I managed to get my hands on a colorful ocean-themed plate♪ I can't wait to use it to decorate my dining table alongside the small bowls I made myself♡
Kaisai Yachimun

I was captivated by the gallery in front of the cafe,
Upon entering and looking towards the back, you'll find an open space stretching from the gallery to the terrace, offering breathtaking ocean views.
Doka Doka Cafe

It's so... wonderful!
There are many lovely cafes in Okinawa, but it's hard to find one that's stylish, warm, and serves delicious food, isn't it?!
I couldn't help but get excited! (lol)

And you can even choose your favorite Yachimun pottery for the water you serve yourself! So cute!
Doka Doka Cafe

I ordered pizza toast this time.
A piping hot pizza toast with gooey, melted cheese. It tastes even better when you enjoy it while looking out at the ocean in Onna Village...!
Doka Doka Cafe

I actually wanted to eat a whole pizza, but I gave up on the idea because I didn't think I could finish it.
The couple next to me were eating it and it looked so delicious...!
Of course, the pizza toast was delicious too!!
Next time, I'd like to come and enjoy pizza with my friends at a leisurely pace♪

I spoke with the owner of this cafe, his wife, Taeko Tamada, and she told me about it.
Apparently, the menu is reviewed and revised every few months when the staff have a meal together.

However, because the number of staff is limited, they can't add any more items to the menu, so they apparently rotate the menu regularly.
Many repeat customers are disappointed when popular menu items are discontinued, so changing the menu isn't always easy...!
Even so, they're not satisfied with the status quo, and their dedication to working hard every day to provide delicious food is truly inspiring!
I can see why it's getting such a reputation for being delicious!!

Toka Toka Cafe was a cafe with a spectacular view that made me want to come back again and again!

3. Hoel Condominium Doka Doka is a private hotel with only three rooms, one on the first floor, where you can enjoy different views from each floor.

Condominium Doka Doka

After the cafe, I was shown the condominium-style hotel that opened next to the cafe in 2020!

This condominium is also managed and operated by his wife.
That's incredible...!

And what I personally find so great about this condominium hotel, Toka Toka, is that it only has three rooms, with just one room per floor.
It's a three-story building, with rooms named "Forest" on the first floor, "Wind" on the second floor, and "Sea" on the third floor.
Condominium Doka Doka

Each room has a very nice terrace with a wonderful view,
The "Forest" area on the first floor is filled with trees unique to Okinawa, which bring in negative ions.
Condominium Doka Doka

The second floor, "Kaze" (Wind), offers a well-balanced view of Okinawa's unique greenery and sea, and is well-ventilated.
Condominium Doka Doka

The "Sea" room on the 3rd floor offers breathtaking ocean views from a hilltop in Onna Village, allowing you to feel the breeze.
Condominium Doka Doka

Isn't a room with this kind of concept absolutely wonderful?! I was so excited.

All three rooms offer wonderful views.
The layout of all three rooms is the same, but the wallpaper and curtain colors differ on each floor.
Upon opening the door, you are greeted by a quiet and peaceful atmosphere, as if time were truly slowing down.

The spacious living room features a sofa that can seat many people and a large, fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher.
Tsuchika Tsuchika Living

Of course, the rooms are equipped with all the necessary dishes for cooking, including a rice cooker, toaster, and a wide variety of cutlery.
Condominium Doka Doka

The amenities are also thoughtfully chosen. The hair dryer and showerhead are Mirable brand. The bath amenities are also from an Okinawan brand.
Condominium Doka Doka

This 3-bedroom type accommodation is perfect for staying with relatives or family, and can accommodate 2 to 6 adults.
Personally, what I like is that while 3-bedroom apartments often have four beds or three double beds,
Toka Toka is a three-bedroom property consisting of three twin rooms, each equipped with its own bed.
Condominium Doka Doka

The master bedroom also includes a washbasin and bathroom, so it's perfect for those who want a little more privacy.
Morning routines like getting ready in the bathroom are less likely to involve a fight over the sink (lol).

Breakfast is optional. If you choose breakfast, it will be served at the adjacent Doka Doka Cafe. You can also take it to go and eat it in your room.

You can feel the owner's attention to detail and warmth in every aspect of the place.

Final thoughts

A cafe with a spectacular view, Okinawan Yachimun pottery featuring the sea, and three private condominium rooms.
I was very satisfied with the product, but more than anything, the personalities of the couple who run it were so wonderful that it made me love Okinawa even more ♡

Whether you're just dropping by for a casual coffee break, creating cherished memories, or enjoying a relaxing stay with a group or family, this place is highly recommended.
Toka Toka is a wonderful place where you can turn your free time in Okinawa into something special for yourself.

If you ever visit Okinawa, be sure to check out Doka Doka!
