If you visit Okinawa many times, you'll eventually want to find your own special place where you can truly relax.
Once you've pretty much visited all the famous restaurants listed in guidebooks, you'll probably want to find a place where you can relax rather than a crowded tourist spot.
And the shops you frequent every time you visit Okinawa will surely become those "special places."
The cafe Dokadoka in Onna Village, which I'm introducing today, is a place that combines stunning views with a tranquil atmosphere, and I'm sure it will become someone's "special spot" after reading this article.

1. Visit Cafe Doka Doka
One day in November, I visited Cafe Doka Doka for lunch.
1-1. Doka Doka, a pottery gallery
Toka Toka is located off a side road from a bypass sandwiched between high embankments that offer no view of the sea. There are hardly any other shops around, so once you turn onto the road in front of the shop, you won't get lost.
The building is made of concrete with a red tiled roof, and it looks like a very stylish private house, but this is actually a shop.

You change into slippers at the entrance before entering the store. They also had slippers for small children.
The stunning blue of the sea in Onna Village, stretching out at the back of the shop, immediately catches your eye (wow)! It gets you excited.

The front of the shop is a gallery of pottery. Akira Tamada, who creates the pottery for Doka Doka, is a famous ceramic artist who has created works for the Okinawa Summit and has produced tableware for prestigious hotels such as the Ritz-Carlton and Renaissance Resort.
Unfortunately, due to the short notice of this interview, we were not allowed to photograph the artwork. A wide variety of pieces are on display and for sale, ranging from tableware such as plates and cups to Shisa figurines. Please take a look at the gallery's atmosphere, even though the photos are taken from a distance.

Incidentally, there's also an exhibition space on the second floor, where larger works than those in the gallery are displayed. Unfortunately, children are not allowed inside.
1-2. Pizza and curry lunch on a terrace with a spectacular view.
The cafe space has indoor table seating and counter seating on the terrace.

The indoor seating looks comfortable too, but we'll definitely head to the terrace. Anyone would want to sit on the terrace after seeing this scene.

The panoramic view is mostly green trees, blue sea, and blue sky! You can just barely see a hotel I know (Moon Beach) in the lower right. I could see the Renaissance Resort on the opposite end. The sea in Onna Village is so beautiful!

What's so great about Doka Doka is that the building is built on a slope, so the terraces jut out outwards. As a result, you hardly see anything that looks like everyday life. On the other hand, your feet are on a cliff and you're surrounded by trees. There are wires to prevent falls, but if you have small children, we recommend staying indoors.
I was so captivated by the scenery that I completely forgot, but I finally ordered lunch here.
The food menu includes pizza, taco rice, curry, and more.
It's roughly between ¥1,200 and ¥1,500.
Various drinks are priced around ¥600, while sweets such as homemade cheesecake average around ¥1,000.
Our meal and dessert menus also include great value drink sets.
I was given a pitcher of water for a refill. Even the pitcher was made of pottery; attention to detail was evident.

The rice has arrived! The keema curry has a light sauce with a sour taste at first, followed by a gradual spiciness!

The signature item of the shop, named after the restaurant, is the handmade pizza, Toka Toka. The spiciness of the pochigi (Korean chili pepper) really makes a difference!

The food was delicious, and the beautiful tableware made it a very satisfying meal. I spent the time gazing at the sea, lost in thought, thinking how lovely it would be to have a dining table filled with dishes I bought on my travels.

2. Doka Doka and Seifu Kiln
With both my stomach and my heart full, I left the restaurant.
On the floor below the cafe, there is a pottery workshop called "Seifu Kiln".

You can experience making hand-formed Shisa statues and using a potter's wheel by reservation.
I saw some tableware at a cafe, so I'm really interested! Next time, I'd like to make a reservation and give it a try.

Another exciting thing is that they're planning to open a hotel soon. I wonder what kind of hotel such a wonderful cafe will create!

3. Basic information about Cafe Doka Doka
Cafe Doka Doka is located up a slightly narrow, sloping side road after turning off the Onna South Bypass at the Nakadomari intersection on National Route 58.
Look for the shop's sign and the "Freshly Baked Pizza" banner at the entrance to the side road.
The establishment combines a cafe and a Ryukyu pottery gallery. While the cafe is closed on Sundays, the gallery is open to visitors on Sundays as well.
There are two parking areas, one in front of the shop and one directly opposite it, but be careful as many people mistakenly park in the parking lot of the hotel next door (which appears to be a stylish designer apartment building).
