While waiting for the ferry from Tokashiki Island to Naha, I felt hungry and wandered around the Tokashiki Port area looking for something to eat, or at least something to drink.
I was naive to think that I'd find something at the port.
There are no vending machines within a three-minute walk of Tokashiki Port. And the shops aren't open yet.
And there's only one restaurant.
The name of that one shop is "Cafe Sea Friend Jr."
The location is on the second floor of the former ferry waiting room at Tokashiki Port.
With no other options, I climbed the narrow stairs and entered the shop, finding myself in a space that felt just like a neighborhood cafe.

1. A hearty Okinawan soba lunch

I sat down, drank my water, and took a moment to relax.
The interior is just like a coffee stand, and the muffins for takeout and the posters hanging on the wall create a nice atmosphere.
The regular rice dishes on the menu are Okinawa soba and Hayashi rice.
In addition to the regular menu, we also have a daily lunch menu.

Unlike a typical portside restaurant, they also offer a wide selection of stylish and youthful (blush) cafe menu items.

Parfaits are nice, but I'm starving, so I'd prefer a meal!
The new Tokashiki Mazesoba on the menu sounds tempting, but I drank too much the night before, so I'm craving something with more broth!
I ordered a vegetable soba that looked like it would be a hearty meal.
After waiting a few minutes, the vegetable soba arrived!

The portion size is rather large. This is purely subjective, but even one bowl of vegetable soba would probably fill you up completely.
The soba noodles are made with fresh noodles, and they are the wavy, chewy, flat noodles typical of Okinawan soba.
Some people may like the flavor of dried noodles, but I prefer fresh noodles.

The spicy oil, infused with black pepper, melts into the flavorful broth, making this soba dish surprisingly hearty.
It packs a punch and is quite filling.
Just as I expected – smooth and impactful.
Even though it was a large portion, I finished it all in one go and finally felt relieved.
2. A wide variety of desserts are also available.
Since there was still time before the ship departed, we decided to cool down with some sweets.
Muffins, ice cream, parfaits, and even pancakes and granola—a truly extensive dessert menu.
I ordered the Berry Berry Yogurt Parfait this time.

Homemade granola has a rich, sweet flavor.
The refreshing yogurt ice cream pairs well with both sweet and sour fruits and crunchy granola.
Wow, ordering it was the right decision!
3. Conclusion
Customers started arriving in droves about an hour before the ferry's departure time.
The elderly islanders are enjoying a coffee break, while a young man traveling alone is having a meal before boarding the ship.
A couple at the counter quickly started drinking, and a tourist from overseas took a muffin to go.
The restaurant was full, so we left.
When I got to the ferry terminal, the shop that had been closed earlier was now open.
They have local specialties like tuna jerky from Tokashiki Island and jams made from fruits grown on the island, but it seems they don't sell light meals.
(I'm sure there will be a lot more to come in the summer,) but I'm so glad I went to the Juniors event!
We left Tokashiki Island feeling completely full.
