Bise no Warumi, also known as Warumi Banta.
Warumi means crevice and Banta means cliff, and as the name suggests, a narrow path emerges from a crevice in the sheer cliff face, leading to the blue sea and sky.
 
In the past, information about Warumi was scarce, and the entrance was very difficult to find, so many people would give up halfway through without being able to reach it.

Furthermore, at high tide, the waves reach the crevices of the cliffs, making it impossible to enter, and some people have to turn back in disappointment.
 
Because it is so inaccessible to people, it is still known as a "hidden paradise that only those who are called can reach."
 
This time, we set out on a leisurely adventure by rental bicycle, aiming for the secluded "Bise no Warumi."

*Regarding the visit to Bise no Warumi* (Added June 2026)
Since July 14, 2017, access to Bise no Warumi from the land side had been restricted due to reasons such as illegal dumping of garbage, trespassing on private property, and illegal parking, but it is now accessible again.
Those considering a visit should keep in mind the reasons why access restrictions were imposed in the past and observe proper tourist manners and etiquette.

1. Rent a bicycle at the Bise Fukugi Tree-lined Street.

Bise no Warumi is about 4km from the Fukugi tree-lined street tourist spot. It's a distance you could walk if you tried hard enough, but since the weather was nice, I decided to rent a bicycle and go by bike.
There are mainly two bicycle rental shops around the Fukugi tree-lined street.
 
There's "Namiki Rent-a-Cycle" right at the entrance to Fukugi Namiki Street, and "Ippuku Chaya" located a little further in.

The place I visited this time was "Ippuku Chaya".

Those who rent a bicycle at Ippuku Chaya will receive a special map to Warumi as a perk, and there are many types of bicycles available, from children's bikes to electric-assist bikes. You can also easily make a reservation in advance online or by phone.

The store also sold light snacks such as shaved ice and takoyaki.
Rental bicycle tickets are available at the same counter as food orders.
 
"If you're just going to Bise no Warumi, an hour should be plenty of time," said the shopkeeper.
This time, I wanted to explore not only Warumi but also the surrounding area, so I rented the car for two hours.

There's a bicycle parking area right next to the shop, and you choose a bicycle from there.
If the saddle height isn't right, you can call a staff member and they'll adjust it for you right away.
I received a guide map of Bise. It lists many of the surrounding attractions.
With a map in hand, let's set off!
 

2. Now, let's set off for Warumi in Bise.

Although they received instructions from the shop staff, will they actually be able to arrive safely?
I rented a bicycle from Ippuku Chaya and cycled towards Bisezaki for less than three minutes before I saw the first landmark, "Restaurant Misaki."
Turning left at the intersection just past Restaurant Misaki will take you to the Bise settlement's Fukugi tree-lined street.
However, our destination this time, Warumi in Bise, was in the opposite direction. Turning to the right, we found a sign that kindly read "Warumi."
To the right and behind this sign is a large banyan tree.
Apparently, before the sign was put up, this banyan tree served as a landmark.
 And after passing this banyan tree, fields stretched out before us.
Just keep going straight. Continue pedaling your bicycle.
The path became a gentle uphill slope partway through, and I got a little out of breath.
 
After about three minutes, we reached a Y-shaped fork in the road. Looking closely, we saw that familiar sign again.
How confusing! Thinking about it too deeply might actually lead to the wrong answer.
Turn left here! You're almost there!
 
I continued cycling for about five minutes on a road where there wasn't a soul in sight.
Just as I was starting to feel unsure if I was on the right path, I sensed the presence of many cars and bicycles. And then I saw that familiar sign!
We've finally arrived!
There were a few other customers who, like me, had rented bicycles. Just as the shop staff had said, I was able to arrive here without getting lost in about 10 minutes.
I also saw many foreign tourists who had arrived by rental car or taxi.
 
There isn't a specially designated parking area, but there was enough space to park about five regular-sized cars.

3. Witnessing that breathtaking view firsthand

Now we're just one step away from Bise no Warumi, and my heart is filled with anticipation.
Now, let's head to the stairs leading to Bise no Warumi.
The ground is rocky and uneven, so we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes rather than heels or flip-flops.

It's hard to believe there's a beach up ahead; it feels so much like a jungle.
After walking through the jungle for about a minute, we finally arrived at the long-awaited Bise no Warumi!
As its name suggests, Cliff Crack, you can see the bright blue sky and emerald green sea through the gap between the high cliffs.

It felt like a very long journey to get here, but the breathtaking view instantly wiped away all that fatigue.
 
There is a legend that if you touch the small rock located in the back right corner, you will be blessed with children.

There were a few couples offering coins and stroking the rocks.
It's incredibly windy and chilly between the rocks, so you might want to bring a cardigan or other light jacket.
 
The day I visited Bise no Warumi was a weekday in April, a little after noon, about two hours before low tide.

Low tide is a popular time to stroll along the beach beyond Warumi (apparently, at high tide, the waves reach about halfway up Warumi), but even on this day, when I visited at a slightly different time, there were still more than 10 people gathered.

There might be even more people around low tide.
 
You can check the low tide times on the Japan Meteorological Agency's website, so it's recommended to check in advance and aim for those times.

I spent about 15 minutes there, taking pictures and enjoying the view from the beach.

Indeed, if you're only going to Bise no Warumi, an hour of renting a bicycle is more than enough.

When I did my research beforehand, I had the impression that it was a remote, secluded place only accessible to those who were invited, so I was quite apprehensive...
When I actually went there, there were signs and it was much easier to get there than I had imagined.

What we must not forget is that this is a sacred place where a god descended.
