American Village in Chatan Town is a popular spot loved by tourists as well as locals in Okinawa Prefecture.
In addition to having many shops such as restaurants, clothing stores, and general stores, the entire area has a charming atmosphere, making it enjoyable just to stroll around.
American Village is a great place, but because of its large size, it can be difficult to know where everything is or where to park your car.
Also, it gets incredibly crowded during peak season, so it's a good idea to have some information about parking beforehand.
This article provides an overview of parking information at American Village, and summarizes recommended parking options based on your purpose!
By the way, since the "POKÉGENIC" locations in American Village are hidden in various places throughout the facility, it doesn't matter which parking lot you use. Let's walk around a lot and meet lots of Pokémon!

Click here to view a larger map.
*The map shows parking areas (marked with a "P") and their entrances (marked with a "car") in different colors.
American Village, which is about the size of five Tokyo Domes, has plenty of parking lots in the surrounding area, and parking is basically free everywhere.
The main tourist attractions are the area around the Depot Island Building and Seaside Square Building (the red area on the map), where wall art and seaside cafes are concentrated.
There are many parking lots of various sizes, as evidenced by the numerous blue, red, green, purple, and pink "P" signs.
The largest parking areas in this area are the blue and green parking lots.
Both locations are conveniently located and highly visible, making them highly competitive.
There are also three smaller parking lots (pink) and an underground parking lot (purple) along the road that crosses the red area, so it's a good idea to take a quick look around first.

2. Recommended parking lots by purpose
Now, let's look at some recommended parking lots based on your purpose.
2-1. If you want to go to an Instagrammable spot

The Instagrammable spots are concentrated around the Depot Island Building and Seaside Square Building (red area), so parking in that area is recommended.
If you go there relying on the "SMOOTHIE BOO" sign, you'll quickly see the smoothie wall art, and I personally recommend the car wall art nearby.

2-2. If you want to have a seaside cafe

If you want to go to the coast, there are parking lots (green) around the Oak Fashion Building.
Depending on where you park, you might be so close to the sea that you can see it as soon as you get out of your car.
Because it's a popular parking lot, the competition for spaces is somewhat high.

2-3. If you want to eat

It depends on what kind of meal you want to eat, but if you haven't decided on anything in particular, I would recommend the parking lots around the Depot Island Building and Seaside Square Building (red area).
Located in the heart of a bustling area with numerous shops, it offers easy access to various destinations, making it highly convenient.
Even if you don't have a specific destination in mind, parking your car in this central parking area is a safe bet.
3. Check out lesser-known parking spots during peak season.
Perhaps because parking is free, the turnover rate isn't very good.
If it's not available, it might be better to quickly switch to another location and look for a different one.
3-1. Underground Parking

Although it doesn't have a large capacity, the underground parking lot (purple) is surprisingly little known.
There are landmarks, but many people get so distracted by the wall art that they overlook them.

Even though it's written quite clearly, some people in Okinawa Prefecture are surprised and say, "This is a parking lot!"
During peak season, finding parking can be quite difficult, but since not many people bother going to the underground parking lot, it's worth trying even if you think you might not find a spot.
Since it's underground, it's also recommended on rainy days.
3-2. Chatan Town Mihama Public Parking Lot
American Village gets quite crowded during peak season, with parking lots closest to the main attractions filling up first.
If you absolutely cannot find a parking spot, you can also use the Chatan Town Mihama Public Parking Lot (Green Area).
The parking lot has a capacity of 1500 vehicles, and of course, it's free of charge.
It's a bit of a walk (about 10 minutes) to the main attractions of American Village, but it's a place where you're highly likely to find parking.
3-3. If you absolutely cannot find a parking spot, consider using a paid parking lot.
If you absolutely cannot find a parking spot, there is also a paid parking lot located north of the Hilton Okinawa Chatan Resort.
The first 120 minutes are free, and after that it's 100 yen for every 60 minutes, with a maximum charge of 400 yen for every 24 hours, so it's a very reasonable parking lot.
It's less than a 10-minute walk to the main spots of American Village. If you're lucky with the timing, you can get free admission.Mihama Shuttle CartTaking a ride on it would be nice too.

4. Conclusion

How did you find the parking information for American Village?
American Village has plenty of free parking, but because it's a popular spot, it can be difficult to find a parking spot on weekends and during peak season.
I recommend going with plenty of time to spare, taking parking time into consideration!
