1. A must-try dish: "Spicy Miso Vegetable Soba"

Taira Shoten
Taira Shoten maintains the traditional Yaeyama soba broth made with pork bones and bonito flakes, while also offering many innovative dishes. Their signature dish is the award-winning "Spicy Miso Vegetable Soba," which won the top prize at the 2014 Yaeyama Industrial Festival and was ranked number one in the "Walking Map 1045 Gourmet Popularity Ranking" hosted by Toyoko Inn Hotel.

The spicy miso vegetable soba features a soup made with a base of pork bones from the island, along with a broth made from chicken, bonito, and kelp, enhanced with rich Okinawan barley miso and a spicy kick for added depth and flavor. The generous serving of crisp island vegetables and handmade noodles are a perfect match!
You can also add meat toppings such as cartilage pork ribs or pork belly to make it even more hearty.

They have a wide variety of familiar dishes like curry and katsudon, making it feel like a neighborhood diner.
Yaeyama soba is available as a single dish, as part of a set meal, or as part of a fixed-price meal. You can also add toppings or rice balls to your order.

The soba set menus also have dedicated additional options, including Ishigaki Island specialties such as the Onisasa (rice ball and chicken breast cutlet) set, the OPPO (rice ball and pork cutlet) set, and the Onimenchi (rice ball and minced meat cutlet) set.

*Onisasato is
This dish combines rice sprinkled with furikake (mostly noritama) and fried chicken breast. It was started by local high school students and is now a representative B-grade gourmet dish of Ishigaki Island.
The recipe is simple: put the fried food in a plastic bag, add your favorite seasonings, place a rice ball on top of the seasonings, and squeeze tightly.
Nowadays, there's a wider variety of rice dishes and fried foods available.

You can also upgrade your soba noodles to chlorella noodles, made with chlorella, a specialty product of Ishigaki, for an extra 100 yen.
Delicious and healthy too. Chlorella is also good for the digestive system, so a mega-sized serving of chlorella noodles sounds like a great idea.

3. The interior is clean, just like a bar.

With such a hearty menu, you might expect the interior to be a typical, casual diner, but surprisingly, the shelves behind the counter are lined with liqueurs, creating a clean and sophisticated atmosphere reminiscent of a bar. There are also counter seats, so even women can easily stop by alone.
