Part 1: Cape Zanpa (on the main island)

Located on a cape jutting out from the northwestern tip of Yomitan Village, this scenic spot features sheer cliffs stretching for over 2 kilometers. While its dynamic scenery is a popular attraction, it's also famous as the place where the sun sets last on Okinawa Island.

Sunset is said to occur around 19 PM in summer and 17 PM in winter, so it's best to plan your visit around those times. Be sure to experience the breathtaking panoramic sunset at Cape Zanpa.

The view of Cape Zanpa, with its iconic lighthouse and the setting sun, is breathtakingly beautiful. It's a popular spot for taking photos. Arrive a little before sunset to get ready.

Part 2: Manzamo (on the main island)

This is Okinawa's most famous scenic spot, located on the west coast of the main island. It's well-known for its sheer cliffs that resemble an elephant's trunk. The combination of these distinctive rocks and the sunset is truly mystical, making it a very popular sunset spot. The beauty of the East China Sea reflecting the crimson light is also first-class.

During the summer season (August), sunset is usually around 7 PM (according to Japan Coast Guard data). This is the moment when the sun completely disappears below the horizon. It's best to go early and prepare accordingly.

The cliffs of the uplifted coral reef are bathed in the setting sun. The sheer scale of this natural beauty is breathtaking.

Part 3: Uganzaki (Ishigaki Island)

Located on the Ogamizaki Peninsula in the northwestern part of Ishigaki Island, this cape is home to the white Ishigaki Ogamizaki Lighthouse. It is widely considered the most famous sunset spot on Ishigaki Island. While you cannot enter the lighthouse itself, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the vast East China Sea from its base.

Next to the cape is a grassy area from which you can view the entire cape. It's a perfect spot for taking photos.

During the summer season (August), sunset is usually around 7:20 PM (according to Japan Coast Guard data). From autumn to spring, the sun sets behind Iriomote Island.

Part 4: Nishihennazaki (Miyako Island)

Located at the northwestern tip of Miyako Island, this cape is famous as a spot to watch the island's spectacular sunsets. From the observation deck, you can see the Ikema Bridge spanning the beautiful emerald green sea, as well as Ikema Island to the north, Irabu Island to the west, and Ogami Island to the east.

There's a walking path at the tip of the cape, so I recommend taking a leisurely stroll there during sunset.

Nishihira Anazaki is famous for its wind turbines, which serve as a landmark. The observation deck is located right next to these turbines. The path from the observation deck to the tip of the cape is not very well maintained, so be careful when walking.

Part 5: Irizaki (Yonaguni Island)

This cape is the westernmost point of Japan, and a monument has been erected to commemorate it. It's a popular spot for locals to watch the last sunset in Japan. Taiwan is only 111km away, and on clear days, you can even see the outline of the island.

The interior features watercolors and other artwork by artists residing in Miyako Island, and along with its uniquely illustrated exterior, it has become a popular topic of conversation.
