10. What is the weather like in Okinawa in October?
Okinawa, with an average annual temperature exceeding 20℃, is a warm place with a subtropical climate. Early October still feels like summer, equivalent to the lingering summer heat on the main island of Japan. However, by October, you can definitely feel the season shifting towards autumn, the sunlight weakens, and UV radiation drops to about half of what it is in summer. Rainfall also decreases significantly, and the climate becomes more stable, making it an ideal season for sightseeing.

As the scorching sun weakens, this is the perfect season for sightseeing in Okinawa, a place that is often avoided during the summer.
10. What should I wear to Okinawa in October?
As the average temperature indicates, it's still quite hot during the day in Okinawa. However, signs of autumn are becoming stronger, so it can get a little chilly in the mornings and evenings. Also, sudden rain showers are common in Okinawa, and when there's a breeze, it can feel quite cool on some days. When sightseeing, wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants depending on the day. It's also a good idea to bring a light jacket or cardigan.

Looking at the number of typhoons approaching Japan in recent years, July, August, and September see the most, with October having about half that number. Furthermore, typhoons in October tend to be weaker than those in the summer, and considering the low rainfall shown in the previous graph, it seems that you don't need to worry too much about a major typhoon disaster when traveling in October. However, there are surprisingly many people aiming for this last chance! Early booking is highly recommended.

Let's leave the weather up to fate!
10. Is it still possible to swim in the sea in Okinawa in October?
While October is generally associated with autumn on the main island of Japan, in Okinawa it's more like the summer sun has just softened. With temperatures around 25°C and water temperatures around 28°C, it can actually feel warmer in the ocean.
You can enjoy a wide range of marine activities, including swimming tours, banana boating, and snorkeling, just like in the summer. Some places close for the season in November, so October in Okinawa is your last chance to enjoy the ocean. Be aware that it can get chilly if the weather is bad and the sun isn't strong.
For day trips to the beaches, we recommend Nagannu Island, Minna Island, and Ikei Island on Okinawa Island, or the Phantom Island (Sekisei Lagoon) on Ishigaki Island.
