To get straight to the point, the classic time is, of course, July to September.
However, the best times to go on the tour are April and November.

Because it's inexpensive, the temperature is relatively mild, and there are almost no typhoons during that month.
Please consider each reason and plan your trip to Miyako Island to find the perfect one for you.

1-1. Weather and temperature in Miyako Island

Of course, if you're going on a trip, you'd want to go out on a sunny day, right?
Therefore, I have compiled a table showing the frequency of each weather pattern over the past 10 years.

July has the highest probability of sunny weather throughout the year, with a high probability of 63.3%.
Conversely, the month with the highest probability of rain is January, at 41.7%.
Although there's a 50% or higher chance of sunny weather from June to October, many typhoons pass through the area, so it rained the entire time I was traveling.
Please be aware that such things can happen.

Next, the table above shows the temperature in Hirara Town, Miyako Island, over the past 10 years, from 2004 to 2013.
As you can see, July is the warmest month of the year, with an average temperature of 29.0°C and a high of 31.9°C.
As you'd expect in Okinawa, it's hot, but the sea breeze mitigates the intense heat, making it cooler than Naha on the main island of Okinawa.

Conversely, January is the coolest month. Although it is the coldest month, with an average temperature of 18.0°C and a minimum temperature of 16.1°C, it can be said to have a relatively mild climate.

Next is a table showing the monthly rainfall for the past 10 years, from 2004 to 2013.

In Miyako Island, the rainy season lasts from early May to late June.
Therefore, June has the second highest rainfall of the year, after September, with an average of 229.4 mm of rain falling per month.

The rainy season ends in late June, and summer truly begins. Until around September, we will have consecutive days of scorching hot days (days with a maximum temperature of 30°C or higher) and tropical nights (days with a minimum nighttime temperature of 25°C or higher).
September is the month with the most rainfall of the year, with an average of 211.3 mm of rain falling per month.
This is caused by typhoons, and is particularly due to the tendency for large typhoons to strike in September.

1-2. Typhoon information for Miyako Island

As briefly mentioned above, September is the month with the most rainfall, but August is the month with the most typhoons approaching the area.
The diagram above is a table showing the number of times (hereinafter referred to as "approach count") typhoons came within a 300km radius of the Miyakojima Meteorological Observatory over the past 10 years, from 2004 to 2013, broken down by year and month.

In August, typhoons have approached the region 15 times in the past 10 years, with 3 approaches in 2004 and 2012.
Furthermore, in the past 10 years, there have only been two years without a typhoon approaching the area, meaning that August is a month with a very high probability of being hit by a typhoon.

September also sees a high number of typhoons approaching in the past 10 years, with 11 occurrences. However, considering the amount of rainfall, which is greater than in August despite the higher number of approaches, it is clear that larger typhoons tend to approach in September than in August.

1-3. Which month offers the cheapest tours?

So, which month has the cheapest tour prices?

The table above shows the lowest price per person for a tour from Haneda to Miyakojima using ANA (All Nippon Airways). (Survey conducted by White Bear Family Co., Ltd.)
Throughout the year, August is the month with the highest prices. Conversely, prices remain relatively stable for all months except July and August.
However, the table above shows the lowest rates for the month, so rates will be higher on special days (such as public holidays and the New Year period).
Therefore, let's check it beforehand.

Considering the weather, temperature, typhoons, and prices, April and November (until early December) are the best months to aim for, as there are no typhoons, the probability of sunny weather is around 50%, and tour prices are relatively cheap!
