Araha Beach in Chatan Town is a 600-meter-long artificial beach with white sand. It has basic facilities for swimming, such as changing rooms, and offers marine activities such as banana boating and parasailing, including family-friendly options. The grassy area along the beach is developed as a park with gazebos and plenty of shaded trees, and also features a basketball court, athletic facilities, and BBQ facilities, attracting many people for a variety of leisure activities.

Swimming season and hours at Araha Beach

Swimming is permitted at Araha Beach from mid-April to the end of October.
Opening hours are 10:30 AM to 18:00 PM (may vary depending on the season).

The official opening of the beach season is usually held on the second Friday of April.

Araha Beach parking lot

There are three free parking lots at Araha Beach, all open from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

The parking capacity is 86 spaces in the central area, 60 in the south area, and 124 in the north area.
The parking lots closest to the swimming area are the South and Central lots, but you can also walk from the North parking lot in about 5 minutes using the promenade along the beach.

Showers and changing rooms at Araha Beach

The showers and changing rooms at Araha Beach are located on the ocean side of the south parking lot. Showers cost 100 yen for 3 minutes, and lockers cost 200 yen per use.




You can only use 100 yen coins for both the showers and lockers.

Araha Beach Activity Rental Reception

Activities and rentals at Araha Beach, such as banana boating and other marine sports, BBQ facilities, and parasol rentals, can be booked at the management building.

The administration building is located near the central parking lot, between the showers/changing rooms and the large ship-shaped playground equipment.

<BBQ>

For Okinawan residents, beach parties, or BBQs, are a popular form of beach leisure. Many people visit Araha Beach, especially on weekends, to enjoy BBQs.

Tent and table set with chairs (1 tent) ¥7,000. Reservations are preferred, but you can also use it on the day if there is availability.
Ingredient sets are available from ¥2,600 (orders accepted for 10 people or more), and beer dispensers can also be arranged.
All reservations must be made at least three days prior to the desired date of use.

3-on-3 basketball court
Araha Beach has basketball courts and beach volleyball courts, and is popular with people of all ages and races. The beachside basketball courts, in particular, are one of Chatan's iconic sights.
Also, be sure to check out the backboards of the basketball hoops, which were renovated to commemorate the 2023 Basketball World Cup held in Okinawa.

Indian Oak (playground equipment)
The "Indian Oak" is an iconic athletic playground at Araha Beach. This ship is modeled after the British ship "Indian Oak," which ran aground off the coast of Chatan during the Ryukyu Kingdom era. Although the ship itself sank, there is a history of the people of Chatan rescuing 67 sailors from the rough seas.

In addition to the Indian Oak ship, there are playground equipment and gazebos scattered around the area, creating a relaxing space for both adults and children.

Dream Window
Located very close to the Indian Oak is the "Window of Dreams" monument. Beneath the window carved into the stone are handprints, and there's a legend that says "if two people place one hand on the handprints and watch the sunset together, they will find happiness."
